As part of a 7,000-strong multidisciplinary international engineering group, ARTELIA's MARTITIME branch is a key player in the design of port and coastal facilities, ranking among the top 10 marine engineering companies in the ENR world rankings.
The Sea & Coastal Resilience team specializes in the meteo-oceanic, hydrosedimentary and hydrodynamic aspects of coastal and port engineering. Together with teams specializing in digital, civil and environmental engineering, it designs coastal developments and structures, port facilities and all types of maritime-related projects in France and worldwide for Artelia's Maritime and Ports Business Unit.
The coastal zone is a socio-economic interface highly exposed to climatic hazards and natural risks, causing erosion and marine flooding. As an early stage of coastal management, assessing shoreline retreat over short, medium, and long terms is key to guiding protection strategies.
Two modeling approaches exist: high-complexity models (2D, 2DH, 3D) that solve hydrodynamic equations but are costly and limited in scale (spatial and time), and reduced-complexity models, which simplify processes for faster, large-scale, long-term simulations.
Among these, the IH-LANS model, recently developed by the University of Cantabria, shows strong potential for simulating key coastal processes. Its IH-LANS-Loc [1] module introduces innovative improvements, although its operational performance in complex and heavily anthropized areas still requires further investigation.
There is a need to understand and test the full potential of the cross-shore approach/equilibrium model when coupling with wave models, in presence or not of coastal structure through its application on a real site with high geometric complexity in West Africa, and field data.
An internship is therefore being offered to improve the use of IH-LANS and its IH-Lans-Loc module in the context of the team's studies, with the aim of adapting the use of this new tool to the needs of our engineering company.
It will be supervised by a dedicated supervisor, but several other specialists will be consulted depending on their areas of expertise. Good communication skills and a proactive attitude are essential for the successful completion of this internship.
You will be able to take part in the cultural and sporting activities offered by ARTELIA's CSE (running, touch rugby, soccer, yoga, mountain activities, etc.).
